All my pictures are made with paint :P. (except for the picture on the post -- I dont know how to make things transparent)
Edit: Ok now I know how to make animated gifs and how to make things transparent.

OK I would use paint.net (PDN) with Unfreez.

Here's how:
1. Go here to download and install PDN http://www.dotpdn.com/downloads/p dn.html
I would probably familiarize myself before going further; Maybe take a few tutorials first. For transparency you must use the eraser
2. Make and save them as a .gif only (Unfreez doesen't work with anything else)
your pictures in a special folder and name pics 1, 2, 3, etc.
3. Download Unfreez http://www.whitsoftdev.com/unfree z/ (no installation nessecary)
4. Open the picture folder and click and drag the pictures (in order) to that window thingy in Unfreez (there is no open pictures button)
5. Choose your centiseconds per frame.
6. Click "Make Animated GIF" and select your download destination
